Chaos struck the M40 northbound carriageway between junctions 12 and 13 near Leamington Spa late Monday night with two separate serious crashes involving multiple vehicles.

The first crash occurred at 11:05pm when West Midlands Ambulance Service responded to reports of a multi-vehicle collision. Two paramedic officers, four ambulances, and a critical care team from the Air Ambulance Service were dispatched to the scene.

A spokesperson for the ambulance service said, “Crews found one male HGV driver with serious injuries. Fire crews helped extricate him safely while trauma care was provided on-site.” The injured driver was rushed on blue lights to University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire.

The driver of a second HGV and a car involved in the first crash managed to exit their vehicles but suffered minor injuries. Both were taken to Warwick Hospital for treatment. The third HGV driver was discharged at the scene.

Just after midnight, at 12:25am, emergency services attended a second collision on the same stretch of road near Warwick Services. South Central Ambulance Service joined the West Midlands team for this incident.

Tragically, the male driver of one HGV was pronounced dead at the scene. The second HGV driver suffered minor injuries, described as ‘walking wounded,’ and was taken to Warwick Hospital. A car driver involved sustained minor injuries and was treated and discharged on site by South Central Ambulance Service staff.

The M40 northbound corridor near Leamington Spa and Warwick Services remains affected by these incidents. Drivers are urged to avoid the area as investigations continue and emergency crews work to clear the wreckage. Road closures and delays are expected.
