Police are urgently seeking witnesses after a white Ford Transit Tipper crashed on the M3 northbound near Basingstoke last night.
At approximately 7:10pm on Friday, July 29, the van left the northbound carriageway between junctions 7 and 6 and collided with the mile marker post for junction 6. No other vehicles were involved in the incident, but officers are keen to hear from anyone who may have seen what happened.
The driver, a 25-year-old man from Bournemouth, was taken by road ambulance to Southampton General Hospital with a serious leg injury. His condition is currently critical but stable.
The northbound carriageway of the M3 was closed for around six hours overnight while emergency services responded to the crash. The southbound side was also briefly closed to facilitate the safe landing of an air ambulance.
Police are urging anyone with information about the crash to contact them immediately to assist with the ongoing investigation.
