The M26 eastbound is currently closed between the M25 and Junction 2A (A20, Sevenoaks) after a serious collision involving four vehicles. The incident occurred just after 2.30pm on Sunday, prompting an immediate response from emergency services.
Kent Police and Highways England Traffic Officers arrived at the scene to manage the situation. Specialist collision investigators from Kent Roads Policing have also been deployed, highlighting the severity of the crash. Reports indicate significant damage to the crash barriers as a result of the collision.
Drivers travelling from the M25 anti-clockwise are advised to remain on the M25 until Junction 3, then follow the M20 coastbound to avoid the closure on the M26. These diversions are expected to help alleviate traffic congestion caused by the incident.
Compounding the disruption, a broken-down vehicle leaking fuel is causing additional delays at the Junction 7 roundabout on the M20. Recovery teams are en route to address the fuel leak, and motorists are urged to approach the area with caution.
