Drivers on the M25 anti-clockwise in Kent are currently facing significant delays, with traffic jams causing hold-ups of more than 90 minutes. The worst congestion extends from Junction 4 (Orpington) to the A282 near the Dartford Crossing, one of the busiest parts of the orbital motorway.
The heavy traffic is the result of an unprecedented surge in vehicles, leading to gridlock on this key section of the M25.
In response, National Highways has implemented a diversion to help ease the traffic snarls. Motorists are strongly advised to plan their journeys carefully and allow extra travel time.
The recommended diversion route is as follows:
- Leave the M25 at Junction 4 and take the first exit onto the M25 link road heading towards London.
- At Hewitts Roundabout, take the fourth exit onto the A224 towards Orpington.
- Continue on the A224, then at Crittall’s Corner roundabout, take the third exit onto the A20.
- Rejoin the M25 at Junction 3.
Drivers are encouraged to avoid the congestion by rerouting, delaying travel if possible, or using alternative roads to bypass the heavy queues.
A National Highways spokesperson said, “If this closure impacts your planned route, please allow extra journey time. Plan ahead, consider re-routing or delaying your journey.”
