Drivers on the M25 anti-clockwise are experiencing severe traffic congestion due to a full carriageway closure between Junction 29 (Romford/A127) and Junction 28 (Brentwood/A12) that began at 3pm on Tuesday, June 17.
According to AA Maps, the resulting traffic jams stretch for miles, with queues extending all the way back to the Dartford Crossing. Motorists have been stuck in heavy traffic for several hours, leading to widespread frustration and disruption.
A National Highways spokesperson advised, “If this closure affects your planned route, please allow extra time for your journey.”
Authorities have implemented the Hollow Square diversion to help drivers avoid the closure. The diversion route requires motorists to exit the M25 at Junction 29, take the A127 towards London, then at Gallows Corner keep left and take the 4th exit onto the A12 towards Harwich, before rejoining the M25 at Junction 28.
Traffic officers remain on site managing the situation, but local roads around the A12 and A127 are heavily congested as diverted traffic floods the area.
Emergency services including Kent Police and South East Coast Ambulance Service have been contacted for updates; however, the cause of the closure has not yet been disclosed.
