Drivers on the M25 experienced significant delays this afternoon after a vehicle caught fire on the anticlockwise carriageway between Junction 13 (Staines/A30) and Junction 12 (M3 interchange). The incident caused emergency teams to hold traffic in all lanes, resulting in complete gridlock on this busy section of the motorway.
Initially believed to be a simple breakdown, officials soon confirmed that the car had caught fire. Emergency crews quickly extinguished the blaze and recovered the vehicle. Despite this, traffic remained at a standstill as crews worked to secure the road and ensure safety.
A spokesperson from National Highways stated: “All lanes are currently closed while emergency crews ensure the road is safe. The vehicle involved has been recovered, but residual delays are expected for some time.”
Commuters have been urged to allow extra travel time, consider alternative routes, and stay updated through Traffic England or local traffic information sources.
