National Highways is set to shut the M20 overnight to remove the Operation Brock contraflow system. The closure will affect the London-bound carriageway from junction 9 (Ashford) to junction 8 (Maidstone) and the coastbound side from junction 7 (Maidstone) to junction 9 (Ashford).
The full closure begins at 8pm on Tuesday, 22 April, and is expected to be lifted by 6am on Wednesday, 23 April. This overnight schedule aims to minimise disruption by avoiding peak travel times.
During the closure, fully signed diversions will be in place. Drivers are advised to follow the diversion signs instead of relying on SatNav devices, which may not reflect the temporary traffic changes.
Operation Brock was an emergency traffic management system designed to keep the M20 moving during periods of cross-Channel disruption. Its removal marks a return to normal traffic conditions on this key route linking London with Dover and the Eurotunnel.
