Emergency services responded swiftly early on Wednesday after a van collided with a heavy goods vehicle on the London-bound M20 motorway between junctions 9 and 8 in Kent.

Kent Fire and Rescue teams used hydraulic cutters to remove the van’s door and create space to free the trapped driver. The casualty, believed to be a Polish national, was then handed over to paramedics from the South East Coast Ambulance Service for further treatment.

The London-bound carriageway of the M20 remained closed until just before 5am to allow police to carry out investigations and to facilitate a clean-up operation. Fortunately, no significant delays were reported in the surrounding area as recovery efforts concluded.
