The M20 motorway is shut in both directions after a serious crash near Wrotham. A lorry cab plunged from the A20 bridge onto the motorway below, causing significant disruption for drivers.
Emergency services, including the air ambulance, rushed to the dramatic scene. The cab and tractor unit lost control on the A20 bridge before smashing through barriers and falling onto the London-bound M20 carriageway.
National Highways confirmed the following closures: the London-bound carriageway is closed between Junction 3 (M26 interchange) and Junction 1 (Swanley), while the coastbound carriageway is shut between Junction 2 (A20 Wrotham/Brands Hatch) and Junction 3.
Traffic is being diverted onto local roads, resulting in major delays across the A20, A25, and M25 approaches.
A National Highways spokesperson said, “The M20 remains closed in both directions following a serious collision involving a lorry which has left the carriageway. Emergency services, including the air ambulance, are on scene.”
It is not yet clear if anyone was injured. The motorway is expected to remain closed for several hours as specialist recovery teams and investigators work at the scene. Drivers are urged to avoid the area and allow extra time for alternative routes.
