Two lanes of the busy M20 motorway in Kent remain closed following a serious collision between two heavy goods vehicles. The crash occurred at around 5.37pm on Saturday, January 22, 2022, between junction 8 (Maidstone East) and junction 9 (Ashford).
Emergency services rushed to the scene, where paramedics treated the drivers involved. Fortunately, injuries are believed to be minor, although the tractor units suffered significant damage.
A specialist recovery firm, Manfield’s, is leading a major clean-up and recovery operation. The lanes are expected to remain closed until at least 10.30pm as a result.
Meanwhile, further down the M20 on the Londonbound side between junctions 3 and 4, police and National Highways are managing another incident involving an overseas heavy goods vehicle and a van. National Highways is also inspecting the road furniture following this crash.
Kent Police have been contacted for comment. Updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
