Chaos erupted on the M20 tonight after a two-vehicle collision involving a grey and red Freelander caused significant disruption for drivers travelling towards the Channel Tunnel in Kent.
During the evening rush hour, one of the Freelander vehicles overturned onto its roof while the other crashed over the crash barriers. This incident led to the closure of the London-bound carriageway as recovery crews worked to winch the vehicles clear of the road.
Paramedics from the South East Coast Ambulance Service attended the scene to treat those involved in the crash. Meanwhile, traffic heading in the opposite direction slowed considerably as drivers rubbernecked the recovery operation.
Kent Police confirmed that an investigation into the crash is currently underway. Both drivers will be interviewed later to determine whether any offences were committed. Officials have not yet disclosed the cause of the collision.
The closure of the London-bound lane resulted in long delays, with traffic backing up all the way to the Channel Tunnel.
