Just hours after the London-bound M2 carriageway reopened, a second serious crash has caused lengthy delays near Medway services. The motorway section had only just reopened following a nearly 10-hour closure due to a fatal collision near Sittingbourne.
The latest incident involved a long wheelbase grey Ford Transit van that overturned onto its roof after colliding with barriers and road furniture. Fortunately, the driver escaped with minor injuries, but emergency teams had to briefly close the motorway to provide assistance.
National Highways and contractors are currently on site conducting a major clean-up operation. They are removing damaged barriers, trees, and mud from the carriageway and hard shoulder. Part of the hard shoulder remains coned off as the work continues.
Motorists are facing heavy delays as traffic slows down to observe the recovery efforts. With both incidents occurring on the same stretch of motorway within hours, frustration is growing among commuters trying to reach London.
Kent Police have been contacted for comment but have yet to respond.
