Kent’s M2 motorway is experiencing significant disruption following a serious single-vehicle crash this evening, February 16, 2025. The section of the motorway between Junction 5 (Sittingbourne) and Junction 6 (Faversham) remains closed as emergency services work to manage the scene and conduct investigations.
At 4:47 PM, Kent Fire and Rescue Service (KFRS) responded to reports of a collision on the coastbound carriageway. Three fire engines arrived promptly, equipped with specialist rescue tools. Firefighters used hydraulic spreaders, cutting equipment, and rams to free a driver trapped inside the vehicle.
The injured motorist was quickly transferred to the care of South East Coast Ambulance Service (SECAmb) paramedics and the Helicopter Emergency Medical Service (HEMS) team. The HEMS crew, which includes doctors and advanced paramedics, is providing critical care at the scene.
This incident is being managed through a coordinated multi-agency response involving Kent Fire, Police, SECAmb, and HEMS medics. Despite their efforts, the M2 remains closed in both directions as accident investigation officers examine the scene for evidence.
Traffic diversions have been implemented, but severe delays are expected. Drivers are strongly advised to avoid the area if possible.
Kent Police have issued an appeal for witnesses or motorists with dashcam footage of the crash to come forward. A police spokesperson stated, “Any information could be vital to our inquiry.” Anyone with relevant information or videos is encouraged to contact Kent Police on 101, quoting the incident reference, or to submit dashcam footage via the Kent Police website.
