A lorry smashed through the barrier on the M11 northbound in Essex this morning, March 31, causing long delays for commuters. The crash occurred shortly before 6am between junction 8, near Stansted Airport, and junction 10 at Duxford.
Shocking footage shows the lorry tipped onto its left side, leaning precariously close to a ditch. All northbound lanes remain closed as recovery crews work to right the vehicle and repair the damaged barrier.
Traffic is backed up for three miles, with delays of around 20 minutes expected for drivers approaching junction 8. Motorists are advised to allow extra time for their journeys or seek alternative routes.
Drivers heading to Stansted Airport can still access the airport from junction 8 but should expect heavy congestion on the approach. Official diversions are in place, guiding traffic via the A120 with signs marked by a solid circle.
Essex Police responded immediately to the incident and are managing the busy scene. Fortunately, there are no reports of injuries related to the crash. However, the incident has caused significant disruption during the morning rush hour.
National Highways described the recovery operation as “complicated” and have not provided a timeline for when the road will reopen.
