An overturned lorry has brought the A20 westbound to a standstill, blocking the busy route from Dover to Capel-le-Ferne.
National Highways confirmed the road is shut between the A256 junction near Dover and the B2011 at Capel-le-Ferne. Recovery crews are working against the clock to clear the scene, with the closure expected to last for several hours.
“The closure is necessary for the safety of officers and specialist recovery teams,” said National Highways.
Kent Police rushed to the site after receiving reports at 1:20am about the overturned HGV. An official spokesperson said: “Officers attended immediately and closed the westbound lane for recovery operations.”
Motorists travelling through the area are warned to stick to official diversion routes and expect long delays. Drivers are advised to plan extra travel time or find alternative routes while recovery continues.
