New Coxswain Faces First Night Callout in Storm

Shoreham RNLI volunteers braved fierce gale-force winds on Saturday night after reports of two people trying to enter the sea at Worthing Pier sparked an urgent lifeboat launch at 11:41pm. Leading the charge was freshly qualified coxswain Dan Measor, commanding his very first rescue mission since completing training. Despite the wild weather and rough seas, the all-weather lifeboat raced to the scene to assess the situation.

Though conditions were treacherous, the dramatic response was called off en route when emergency teams confirmed the individuals were already in safe hands. The incident underscores the unpredictable, fast-moving nature of coastal emergencies, especially when the weather turns deadly.

The RNLI reminds everyone: if you spot anyone struggling in the water or along the coast, call 999 and ask for the Coastguard without delay. Quick action can save lives.
