Fire crews are currently battling a significant blaze at an electrical substation located on Curness Street, just off Lewisham High Street. The fire started shortly before midday on Saturday 26 July, prompting an urgent response from the London Fire Brigade (LFB).
Thick smoke is spreading across nearby streets as multiple fire engines work to control the fire. Emergency services have established safety cordons around the area due to concerns about electrical hazards and widespread power outages.
A London Fire Brigade spokesperson said, “Crews are responding to a fire at a commercial premises off Lewisham High Street. We urge members of the public to avoid the area while operations continue.”
Residents and local businesses have been advised to keep windows closed and avoid Lewisham High Street and Curness Street. Bus routes are being diverted to keep passengers away from the smoke and emergency response activities. Fortunately, no injuries have been reported at this time.
