Firefighters rushed to a house fire on Herne Bay Road, Whitstable, on Wednesday evening after flames erupted in a kitchen. Kent Fire and Rescue Service (KFRS) were alerted at 5:55pm and dispatched two fire engines to tackle the blaze.
On arrival, crews found the kitchen engulfed in flames. Wearing breathing apparatus, firefighters used high-pressure hose reels and a positive pressure ventilation fan to douse the fire and clear thick smoke from the property.
One occupant suffered smoke inhalation and was handed over to South East Coast Ambulance Service (SECAmb) paramedics for immediate treatment.
The blaze is believed to have started accidentally after a hob was left on. Fire crews had the fire under control by 6:41pm, preventing further damage.
“We’d like to remind residents to always take extra care in the kitchen. Keep cooking areas clean and free of flammable items, and never leave hobs or other cooking appliances unattended while in use,” said a spokesperson for Kent Fire and Rescue Service.
This latest incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers lurking in our kitchens – one of the most common places for accidental fires in the home.
