Chaos erupted in Kent on Monday, 28th December 2025, when a man was struck by a speeding silver Mercedes estate and dragged along the A289 Gads Hill near Waterside Lane, Gillingham.
The horrific crash occurred just after noon, with eyewitnesses horrified as the victim clung to the car’s bonnet before falling off near Grange Road.
One witness said: “The driver didn’t stop – the man was still on the bonnet and was carried for some distance before falling off. It was horrific.”
The silver Mercedes was later found abandoned on Eastcourt Lane, Rainham, covered with a blue tarpaulin and seized by forensic teams.
Emergency services quickly swarmed the scene, leading to key road closures including Pier Road between The Strand and Lower Rainham Road, Lower Rainham Road near the Eastcourt Lane junction, and Yokosuka Way near McDonald’s on Beechings Way.
Specialist Kent Roads Policing officers took over the investigation, sealing off the area and causing significant disruption. The local air ambulance was also on site, highlighting the seriousness of the incident.
Residents remain trapped inside police cordons, unable to move vehicles or access homes, while search dogs comb nearby streets.
Kent Police have launched an urgent appeal for local residents to check their CCTV and Ring Doorbell footage for any sightings of the silver or grey car involved at the time of the incident. Dashcam owners are also encouraged to submit any video evidence to the Kent Police Evidence Portal.
The community has been left reeling amid rumours and fear. Locals describe the area as notoriously dangerous and often affected by speeding cars. Despite swirling whispers about potential violence, police have confirmed that no firearms were involved.
Shaken residents remain inside the police cordon, awaiting answers after witnessing this terrifying event unfold on their doorstep.
A witness summed up the horror: “The driver just sped off after hitting the man. It was horrific.”
