Kent Resilience Forum (KRF) has issued a warning that Eurotunnel and Dover ferry crossings for Friday to Sunday, 27-29 May, are fully booked. There will be no turn-up-and-go tickets available during this busy half-term period. Travellers planning to cross the border are advised to book their tickets now to avoid being turned back at the border.
Liverpool Football Club fans travelling to the UEFA Champions League final in Paris next Saturday have already secured their ferry or shuttle tickets through a partnership between the club, travel operators, and KRF. However, other travellers in Kent face significant delays and limited availability.
Kent remains a popular destination with its stunning beaches, rich history, and excellent shopping. However, the county’s roads are congested with locals, tourists, and freight traffic. The situation has been exacerbated by reduced P&O ferry services operating from Dover.
Since April, Operation Brock has been in place to manage lorry traffic on the M20 due to limited ferry capacity. Heavy goods vehicle drivers heading to Europe may also face restrictions at Brenley Corner (Junction 7 on the M2 at Faversham), where they could be required to rejoin the queue system managed by Operation Brock.
Drivers travelling in Kent are urged to check their routes before setting off, allow extra travel time, and carry essentials such as food, drinks, and medication in case of delays.
