Joshua Masih, 25, formerly of Stevenston, North Ayrshire, has been sentenced to five years in prison for repeatedly raping a woman at an Irvine address. The High Court in Kilmarnock convicted Masih following offences that occurred between May 2020 and January 2022.
Police confirmed that the attacks involved physical violence and sexual assault. During the assaults, Masih forced the woman onto a bed, pinned her down, removed her clothing, and raped her while placing his arm across her neck.
The jury found the evidence compelling, which led to his conviction. Sentencing took place on 15 May, with Masih receiving a five-year prison term. The sentence was backdated to April.
In addition to the prison sentence, Masih was ordered to join the sex offenders’ register and is subject to a 10-year non-harassment order preventing any contact with the victim.
Despite the conviction, Masih continues to deny the charges. However, the court found the prosecution’s case strong enough to secure a conviction.
The non-contact order has been imposed to protect the victim, ensuring she is safeguarded from further harm and harassment by Masih.
