UK Schools Score Big: Free Breakfast Deals Kick Off Today

Starting today, UK schools are cashing in on discounts and free deliveries for breakfast supplies. The Best Start free breakfast clubs are already a lifesaver for working parents, cutting morning chaos by up to 95 hours a year and putting an extra £450 back into family budgets.

Morrisons and Food Giants Lead Breakfast Revolution

Rami Baitiéh, CEO of Morrisons, said: “We’re thrilled to back the free breakfast club scheme. Our expertise in fresh, quality food combined with our free anytime delivery pass means schools can reliably serve up healthy breakfasts every day.”

Thanks to this partnership, schools now enjoy affordable and varied breakfast options. The extra cash saved lets them invest in fun extras like board games and sports gear. This couldn’t come at a better time, as 38% of parents struggle with time and fussy eaters to get their kids a healthy morning kickstart.

Half a Million More Kids to Benefit by 2026

From April 2026, 2,000 new schools will join the breakfast club wave, adding half a million kids to the free breakfast scheme. The government is also cracking down on pricey branded uniforms ahead of a new spending cap, saving parents over £50 each.

A recent Parentkind poll revealed a chilling reality: over a quarter of parents sometimes skip heating or meals just to afford school uniforms.

Top Food Brands and School Leaders Back the Move

Education Secretary Bridget Phillipson declared: “We’re teaming up with Britain’s favourite food brands to expand free breakfast clubs. This supports families, schools, and ensures every child starts the day right.”

Hit breakfast favourites like porridge (27%), fruit and yoghurt (25%), wheat biscuits (15%) and wholegrain toast (11%) will become easier for schools to get, thanks to new brand partnerships.

Simon Roberts, Sainsbury’s CEO, said: “Far too many children come to school without a balanced breakfast. We’re proud to help with £200 vouchers for early adopter schools and are committed to making nutritious food accessible nationwide.”

Rick Weights, Head Teacher of Saxton Federation of CE Primary Schools, added: “These deals are a game-changer for rural schools like ours. Free delivery from Morrisons cuts costs and lets us offer a better menu. Our 26 regular breakfast club kids now enjoy a soft, supportive start every morning.”

The Breakfast Club Revolution: Parents and Pupils Celebrate

Labour leader Keir Starmer tweeted: “Free breakfast clubs are rolling out nationwide, joined by Morrisons, Sainsbury’s and Weetabix. We’re backing schools, supporting families, and giving every child the best start in life.”

Parents and schools can finally breathe a sigh of relief. This fresh initiative is set to break the link between background and opportunity – all before the first school bell rings.
