A major crash involving four vehicles has caused the M2 near Sittingbourne to be completely closed, resulting in massive delays for motorists. The incident occurred just after 9am on Tuesday, prompting a swift emergency response.
Police, fire crews, and paramedics rushed to the scene following the multi-vehicle smash. An ambulance was escorted away by police while the motorway remains fully closed to all traffic.
The South East Coast Ambulance Service deployed HART teams and sent five ambulances to attend to those injured in the collision. To ensure safety, Highways England closed the entry slip from the A249 onto the M2.
Drivers are currently facing delays of at least an hour westbound between Junction 6 and Junction 4. The crash has blocked the carriageway between Junction 5 and Junction 4, causing significant congestion to build up.
Kent Police and emergency teams are on site, supported by Highways England Traffic Officers. While traffic experts expect the road to reopen soon, motorists are advised to plan ahead, seek alternative routes, or postpone their journeys if possible to avoid disruption.
