Five men have been sentenced to a combined total of 107 years in prison for the fatal stabbing of 21-year-old Giovanny Rendon Bedoya in Walworth on 14 April 2025. The sentencing took place at the Old Bailey on 20 May following an 11-week trial.

The Metropolitan Police launched an extensive investigation into the incident, reviewing over 1,500 hours of CCTV footage which played a crucial role in identifying and convicting the suspects.

Sentences handed down include:

  • Joseph Jimenez, 22, received a life sentence with a minimum term of 22 years.
  • Angel Gonzalez Angulo, 19, was sentenced to life with a minimum of 21 years.
  • Bryan Villada Hernandez, 20, received life imprisonment with a minimum of 21 years.
  • Zozoro Mohamed Olivier Boizo, 21, was given life with a minimum of 21 years.
  • Christian Batista Gonzalez, 22, was sentenced to life with a minimum of 22 years.

Detective Chief Inspector Kate Blackburn of the Metropolitan Police praised the Walworth community for their support during the investigation. She described the group’s actions as involving “brutality and reckless violence” during a sustained attack on Giovanny Rendon Bedoya.

She said, “We are grateful to the community members who came forward with eyewitness accounts that were vital in building the case against these offenders.”

Giovanny’s mother made an emotional statement following the sentencing, saying, “My son was innocent and was not involved in any fighting that evening. He was attacked without provocation and was not carrying a weapon. I thank the police for their dedication and support during this difficult time.”

The attack occurred on 14 April at approximately 9:16pm near the junction of Hillingdon Street and Langdale Close, SE17. Police were called to reports of a knife fight, where Giovanny was found with multiple stab wounds and was pronounced dead at 10:07pm.

The suspects chased Giovanny through an alleyway before attacking him. Bryan Villada Hernandez was arrested at the scene after forensic evidence linked him to the crime. The other four men were arrested following a thorough investigation involving CCTV footage analysis, mobile phone message reviews, and tracking of clothing changes and movements.

One suspect fled the UK but was later arrested near Barcelona and extradited back to London. The remaining suspects were apprehended across London and Chichester as police closed in on all five men responsible for the murder.
