Blaze Tears Through Bell Farm Avenue Building
A fierce fire erupted in an electrical intake cupboard on the second floor of a Bell Farm Avenue block yesterday evening, sparking panic and chaos for residents.
Massive Fire Brigade Response
The London Fire Brigade (LFB) were scrambled at 6.20pm on October 11, dispatching five fire engines and around 30 firefighters from Dagenham, Ilford, Romford, and nearby stations. Crews battled the blaze fiercely to prevent it spreading further.
Residents Evacuated, Hospitalised
Three adults and five children were treated as a precaution and rushed to hospital by the London Ambulance Service. All residents were evacuated and left without power in their homes.
Barking and Dagenham Council quickly set up a rest centre to support those displaced by the fire.
Fire Under Control, Investigation Ongoing
The fire was brought under control by 7.57pm, with firefighters using breathing apparatus to tackle the intense flames. The blaze damaged part of a second-floor flat. The cause of the fire is still being investigated.
LFB Assistant Commissioner Pat Goulbourne said: “We have local officers on-site at the rest centre supporting residents alongside our partners. We will continue to liaise with the community and provide support tonight and over the coming days.”
Barking and Dagenham Council have been contacted for more information on the rest centre and ongoing support for those affected.
