A tragic accident on the A21 near Sevenoaks has resulted in the death of a female paramedic. The collision between an ambulance and a lorry took place just after 8pm on the Sevenoaks bypass, prompting a large emergency response.
Kent Fire and Rescue Service dispatched four fire engines to the scene. Using hydraulic rescue tools, crews were able to free two people trapped inside the ambulance. Unfortunately, the female paramedic was pronounced dead at the scene.
A male paramedic sustained serious multiple injuries and was airlifted to Kings College Hospital. Additionally, a student paramedic suffered a head injury and was taken to hospital. The lorry driver escaped with minor injuries.
Emma Williams, SECAmb Executive Director of Operations, expressed her condolences, stating, “We are deeply saddened by the loss of our colleague. Our heartfelt sympathies go to her family, friends and colleagues at this very difficult time.” She confirmed that the ambulance was not carrying any patients at the time of the crash and thanked the police, fire, and air ambulance teams for their swift response. Williams also urged anyone who witnessed the collision to come forward to the police.
The A21 coast-bound remained closed for several hours following the incident and only reopened around 8am the following morning. Emergency services continue to support police investigations into the fatal collision.
