Tragedy struck on the M2 near Faversham on Wednesday evening when a pedestrian was hit by multiple vehicles. The fatal smash happened just after 8pm on the coastbound carriageway between Junction 5 (Sittingbourne) and Junction 6 (Faversham).
A man in his 50s was sadly declared dead at the scene. Emergency crews from Kent Police and the South East Coast Ambulance Service rushed to the location but were unable to save him. His next of kin have been informed.
Police quickly shut the coastbound side of the motorway, and the London-bound carriageway was also temporarily closed. Authorities say the London-bound side should reopen by 4pm today, but the coastbound section remains closed as investigations continue. Drivers are urged to avoid the area.
Kent Police’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit is urgently piecing together what caused the crash. They want to speak to anyone who saw the collision happen, drivers who spotted the pedestrian or involved vehicles beforehand, and motorists who passed the scene before emergency services arrived.
