A fatal high-powered motorcycle crash has resulted in the closure of the A2070, a key road connecting Kent and Sussex. Highways England has confirmed that a full police forensic investigation is currently underway.
The tragic collision occurred at around 9pm on Tuesday, 12 August 2025, on the A2070 between the M20 Junction 10 and the A2042 near Ashford. Kent Police’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit is leading the inquiry into the incident.
Eyewitnesses reported that the motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene despite urgent efforts by paramedics and police officers. The motorcycle was discovered a significant distance from the initial crash site.
The A2070 remains closed in both directions as investigators continue to examine the scene. The closure is expected to last for several hours and is exacerbated by ongoing roadworks that have already caused diversions. Local residents have described the situation as a “total lockdown” as traffic between Kent and Sussex comes to a standstill.
Traffic diversions are now in place as follows:
Southbound (Hollow Triangle signs): Exit the M20 at Junction 10 and proceed along the A292 towards Ashford town centre. Then follow Wellesley Road, Station Road, and Beaver Road (A2042). At the Romney Marsh Road roundabout, turn eastbound onto Bad Münstereifel Road to rejoin the A2070 at the Cloverleaf interchange.
Northbound (Hollow Diamond signs): Leave the A2070 at the Cloverleaf interchange onto the A2042 towards Ashford town centre, then follow the southbound diversion route in reverse.
Kent Police and the South East Coast Ambulance Service have appealed for witnesses and anyone with dashcam footage of the crash to come forward. Those with information are urged to contact Kent Police’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit on 101 when the appeal is issued.
