A fatal single-vehicle crash has forced the closure of the M2 westbound between Junctions 6 and 5 in Kent, disrupting travel for many commuters heading towards London.

Kent Police and emergency services were called to the scene just before 1am on Monday. Specialist collision investigators are currently examining the wreckage, with support from Highways England traffic officers. The crash caused extensive damage to a large section of the motorway barriers, contributing to the disruption.

The westbound carriageway is expected to remain closed for several hours, potentially affecting the morning rush hour traffic. Authorities have implemented a diversion route to help ease congestion.

Drivers are advised to follow the solid square diversion signs. The recommended route is to exit at Junction 6, then take the A251 southbound to the A252 in Challock. At the roundabout, head west on the A252 towards Charing, then continue on the A20 westbound to Maidstone and the M20 at Junction 8. From there, continue on the M20 to Junction 7, exit, and take the A249 northbound to rejoin the M2 at Junction 5.

Motorists should allow extra travel time and stay updated on the situation. Kent Police have been contacted for comment regarding the fatal collision.
