A significant fire erupted in a block of flats located on Crabble Road, Dover, during the early hours of Sunday. The fire prompted the swift evacuation of 42 homes as flames rapidly spread through the multi-storey building, triggering a large-scale emergency response.
Kent Fire and Rescue Service (KFRS) received the call at 1:10am and dispatched twelve fire engines, two height vehicles, and their Technical Rescue team to the scene. Firefighters equipped with breathing apparatus battled the intense blaze throughout the night, working diligently to prevent the fire from spreading further.
All residents were safely evacuated from the 42 flats, with crews confirming that everyone was accounted for. The South East Coast Ambulance Service (SECAmb) treated two individuals for smoke inhalation, but no serious injuries were reported. The KFRS Volunteer Response Team provided additional support to both evacuees and firefighters, while Dover District Council arranged emergency accommodation for those displaced by the fire.
The cause of the fire remains unknown, and a full investigation is currently underway. A KFRS spokesperson said, “Our crews responded swiftly to what was a complex and dangerous incident. Thanks to their efforts, all residents were safely evacuated and the fire was brought under control. Investigations into the cause are ongoing.”
