Big changes are coming to Dartford Crossing as new service provider Conduent prepares to take over vehicle identification, payment processing, and account management. Motorists and residents are being urged to act quickly to avoid costly fines.

From 28 July, all Dart Charge account holders—including Pay As You Go customers—must re-validate their payment cards. National Highways, the authority responsible for running the crossing, has sent direct alerts with simple instructions to update card information online. Failure to update payment details by the deadline may result in automatic payment failures and Penalty Charge Notices (PCNs).

National Highways emphasizes the importance of updating payment cards before the 28 July deadline to ensure uninterrupted service and avoid penalties.

To ensure the message reaches all drivers, National Highways is launching a comprehensive communication campaign across social media and other channels. Their aim is to facilitate a smooth transition with minimal disruption for motorists.

Helen Watkinson, Head of Road User Charging at Dart Charge, expressed enthusiasm about the new service, stating: “The redesigned service puts customers first with greater flexibility and a fresh, user-friendly feel. We’ve made improvements from day one and have even more to come. Your feedback shaped this change, so keep it coming!”

What drivers need to do now:

  • Log in to your Dart Charge account as soon as possible
  • Update your payment card details before the 28 July deadline
  • Watch for official reminders from National Highways
  • Visit the National Highways website for full information and updates

The Dartford Crossing is set for a major service overhaul. Drivers are advised not to delay and to update their payment information promptly to ensure smooth and penalty-free crossings.
