Danny Dyer’s Most Honest Interview Yet on Groundbreaking ITV Show

EastEnders star Danny Dyer has called his appearance on ITV’s new series The Assembly “the most open and honest interview that I’ve ever given.” The show, premiering on Saturday, April 26, offers a fresh twist on celebrity chats — with no topic off limits.

Autistic and Neurodivergent Panel Drive Raw, Unfiltered Chats

The Assembly features well-known faces interviewed by a panel of autistic, neurodivergent, and learning-disabled individuals. The result? Genuine, heartfelt conversations that smash the usual celebrity interview clichés.

Aside from Dyer, the lineup includes football legend and Match Of The Day host Gary Lineker, Doctor Who favourite David Tennant, and former Little Mix star Jade Thirlwall.

Dyer Gets Emotional — and Loves It

“It was like three hours, so it took a while for everybody to trust me in the room, and I think they did.”

“It was very emotional and refreshing to open up about my feelings in front of such a beautiful, intelligent and honest group of people.”

“I’m quite naturally an emotional person anyway; I’m very sensitive… I was getting really bored of my own voice, but this revitalised me somewhat. It got me excited about being interviewed again.”

Dyer: Politicians Should Face This Tough Panel Next

When asked who he’d love to see tackle the panel’s unique questions, Dyer didn’t hold back. “Any f****** politician, because I would like to see them squirming in their seat trying to answer the beautiful questions that The Assembly have,” he joked.

Fresh Format Hits UK, Tackling Vulnerability Over Glamour

Known for tough-guy roles in The Football Factory and as Mick Carter in EastEnders, Dyer faced a new challenge with The Assembly. The show’s focus isn’t on performance, but on real vulnerability.

The format is adapted from the French series Les Rencontres du Papotin, which since 2022 has welcomed guests like actress Camille Cottin and even French President Emmanuel Macron.

The Assembly is part of ITV’s diversity commissioning fund, aiming to boost inclusive storytelling.

The series launches on Saturday, April 26 at 10.05pm on ITV1, STV, and streaming platforms ITVX and STV Player, with early streaming from 7am.
