Drivers in Southampton experienced major disruption after a dangerous tree forced the closure of Kanes Hill Road. The incident occurred in Hedge End, where a local resident alerted the council about the hazardous tree.
The closure affected Kanes Hill Road from Thornhill Park to its junction with St John Road. An inspection revealed the tree was on the verge of collapse, prompting an immediate shutdown of the road to allow specialist contractors to remove the threat.
The diversion caused long delays for motorists, with many reporting their journeys were extended by up to 30 minutes. The closure led to significant frustration among commuters trying to navigate the area.
A Hampshire Highways spokeswoman said: “Kanes Hill was closed today to allow removal of a dangerous tree. Sorry for any inconvenience. The road reopened as soon as the tree was removed.”
