A collision on the M20 smart motorway tonight caused significant delays for drivers heading coastbound in Kent.
The crash occurred on the busy stretch between Junction 3 (M26) and Junction 4 near West Malling. Two lanes were closed in the new smart motorway section, leading to tailbacks and gridlock.
Police, ambulance, and National Highways teams quickly responded to the scene. Although traffic flow was partially restored, lanes three and four remained closed for several hours.
At 7pm, National Highways South-East confirmed that recovery vehicles were on their way. Drivers experienced delays of around 25 minutes, with queues extending over 3.5 miles.
By 8.40pm, the motorway was fully cleared and traffic returned to normal, easing the rush hour congestion.
