The Cowes RNLI lifeboat launched to assist a 50-foot yacht in distress off Osborne Bay on Friday afternoon.
Just after 3pm, the UK Coastguard received a distress call and ordered the Cowes lifeboat to launch. A couple sailing from Chichester to Bembridge had anchored in Osborne Bay for a break when their anchor chain became snagged on the yacht’s bow-thrust aperture.
The lifeboat launched at 3.26pm and quickly arrived on scene. The crew used a boat hook and carefully nudged the yacht’s hull to free the stuck anchor chain.
Once the chain and anchor were safely secured, the yacht was able to resume its journey to Bembridge.
The lifeboat returned to Cowes station by 4pm, completing a swift and successful rescue operation. Another day, another lifesaving job for the RNLI!
