A car fire sparked chaos on the M2 between junctions 4 and 5 on Wednesday afternoon, 6 September 2023. The blaze caused temporary delays for motorists during peak hours.
Kent Fire and Rescue responded swiftly to the incident. At around 16:09, two fire engines were dispatched to the scene following reports of a vehicle ablaze on the busy motorway. Firefighters, equipped with breathing apparatus, quickly extinguished the flames using high-pressure hose jets, preventing the fire from spreading further.
Initial investigations suggest that an engine fault caused the fire. Fortunately, no injuries were reported. The prompt action by the fire crews prevented what could have been a major incident.
After the fire was extinguished, National Highways traffic officers took control of the scene to manage clean-up and safety measures. Although some delays affected rush hour traffic, officials expect the motorway to clear soon, with normal traffic flow resuming shortly.
Drivers are urged to stay alert and follow traffic updates when passing through the area.
