Chaos on Newington Causeway as Bus Crashes Into Southwark Playhouse
Morning rush hour turned into a nightmare on Newington Causeway today after a 35 bus smashed into the front window of the Southwark Playhouse at 8.06am. The crash also involved a stationary 333 bus that wasn’t in service, bringing traffic to a grinding halt.
Emergency Services Flood the Scene
London’s emergency teams swarmed the scene immediately. The London Ambulance Service treated multiple patients on site and rushed six victims to nearby hospitals. Their conditions remain unknown. The London Fire Brigade and Metropolitan Police also arrived to control the chaos and secure the area.

- The back of the stationary 333 bus suffered severe damage
- Police confirmed no arrests have been made so far
London Ambulance Service Speaks Out
James Johnson, Strategic Commander, said: “We were called at 8.06am to reports of a road traffic collision in Newington Causeway, SE1. We sent ambulance crews, paramedics in fast response cars, advanced paramedics, an incident response officer, and our Hazardous Area Response Team. A trauma team from London’s Air Ambulance was also dispatched.
“We treated a number of patients at the scene and took six of them to hospital.”
