Emergency services responded swiftly on Wednesday afternoon after a woman fell from a height near Madeira Drive on Brighton Promenade, resulting in critical injuries.
The incident occurred on Marine Parade, Brighton, where the woman was found seriously hurt following the fall. South East Coast Ambulance Service (SECAmb) and the Kent, Surrey & Sussex Air Ambulance were dispatched promptly to the scene.
She was airlifted to the Royal Sussex County Hospital for urgent medical treatment.
It has been reported that police officers had previous contact with the woman before the incident took place.
A Sussex Police spokesman told UKNIP: “On Wednesday (30 July) at around 1.40pm, emergency services received reports of concern for a woman’s welfare in Madeira Drive, Brighton. Officers engaged with the woman, who was taken to hospital by the Ambulance Service with serious injuries.”
In line with standard procedure, Sussex Police have referred the case to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) due to their prior involvement with the woman.
The current condition of the woman has not been disclosed.
