Council Cracks Down to Boost Safety and Clean Up New Road
Brighton and Hove City Council confirmed the bench removals are part of a bigger crackdown aimed at making New Road safer, cleaner, and more accessible for all visitors.
Once hailed as the UK’s first shared space for pedestrians and vehicles back in 2007, New Road has lately become a magnet for troublemakers and antisocial activity.
Police and Locals Join Forces for Long-Term Fixes
To turn New Road into a welcoming and secure spot, the council is teaming up with Sussex Police, local businesses, and community groups to cook up lasting solutions.
“We are committed to making New Road a safer and more inviting place for everyone, and this is the first step in wider improvements planned for the area,” said a Brighton and Hove City Council spokesperson.
