A major exit from Bluewater Shopping Complex near Dartford, Kent, was closed in the early hours of Sunday after a driver lost control of a silver Vauxhall Vectra and crashed into the central barrier on Bluewater Parkway.
Witnesses reported that the silver Vauxhall Vectra was speeding around a bend when the driver lost control and collided with the roadside barriers, causing thousands of pounds in damage. The vehicle was left mangled and stuck in the safety barrier, requiring a specialist Hi-ab crane to remove it from the scene.
Approximately 20 emergency vehicles, including Kent Air Ambulance and the South East Coast HART team, rushed to the elevated section of Bluewater Parkway just before midnight on Saturday, 28 December. A witness described the scene as chaotic due to the large emergency response.
The driver sustained serious injuries and was transported to a local hospital. The exact extent of the injuries remains unclear, but authorities have confirmed the situation is serious.
Social media circulated rumours of a fatality in the crash; however, Kent Police have not confirmed any deaths. A spokesperson for Kent Police stated, “Police were called to Bluewater at 11.14pm on Saturday, 28 December following a report of a road traffic collision involving one vehicle. South East Coast Ambulance Service and Kent Fire and Rescue Service also attended.”
The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
