Emergency crews rushed to Royal Approach Road in Ramsgate on Friday night after a car caught fire. Kent Fire and Rescue Service confirmed they were called at 7:56pm to respond to the blaze.
Two fire engines arrived promptly and deployed Compressed Air Foam Systems (CAFS) to extinguish the intense flames engulfing the vehicle. A spokesperson for Kent Fire and Rescue said: “Kent Fire and Rescue Service was called to reports of a car on fire on Royal Approach Road, Ramsgate. Two fire engines attended and crews used Compressed Air Foam Systems to extinguish the flames. One person was passed into the care of South East Coast Ambulance Service (SECAmb).”
The fire was fully extinguished by 9:50pm. The cause of the fire remains unknown at this time, but investigators may open a formal inquiry if any suspicious circumstances arise.
South East Coast Ambulance Service treated one individual at the scene, although details about the injuries have not been disclosed. There were no road closures reported during the emergency response, but minor traffic delays were expected.
Kent Fire and Rescue Service and Kent Police have launched an appeal for witnesses. Anyone who saw the incident or captured it on dashcam or CCTV is urged to contact the police on the non-emergency number 101, providing the time and location of the event.
The blaze caused concern among residents as Royal Approach Road is close to residential areas and the coast. Witnesses described the fire as “intense,” with thick smoke visible for miles around, heightening alarm in the local community.
