Asda is sparking a new Easter Bunny craze this Good Friday by handing out free loose carrots in 581 stores across the UK. This initiative celebrates a quirky and growing tradition of leaving a carrot out for the Easter Bunny on “Easter Eve.”
Nearly half of British households now participate in the Easter Eve carrot ritual, with almost 45% of UK families leaving carrots for the Easter Bunny. This trend has increased by 10% in just two years, showing its rising popularity. Young people are leading the way, with 22% of 18-to-29-year-olds taking part last year. Far from being a passing fad, 58% of participants have maintained the tradition for over five years.
Families add playful touches to the ritual, with around 12% admitting to nibbling carrots to create fake bunny teeth marks, and 10% scattering carrot crumbs to enhance the realism of the Bunny’s visit.
Asda has embraced this new tradition by rebranding carrot packs as ‘Easter Bunny Carrots’. The supermarket has also introduced Easter-themed vegetable deals on parsnips and potatoes, priced at 30p each or 5 for £1, available from 31 March to 6 April.
On Friday 3 April, families can collect a free carrot while stocks last to take part in their Easter Eve rituals. Additionally, children can enjoy a free Easter Bunny hunt in-store, searching for hidden Bunny letters during their shopping trip.
An Asda spokesperson said: “The new-age tradition of leaving a carrot out for the Easter Bunny offers a simple, accessible way for families to build anticipation for a special Easter Sunday. And, unlike reindeer, rabbits genuinely love carrots, making the tradition surprisingly logical!”
