A woman suffered injuries and was rushed to hospital after an ambulance responding to a 999 emergency call collided with two vehicles on a busy Southampton road.

The crash occurred on Oakley Road just after 9:20pm, causing traffic to come to a halt and emergency crews to rush to the scene.

Firefighters from Redbridge, St Mary’s, and Cosham worked together to rescue a trapped couple from one of the vehicles involved, a Skoda Scout, which had flipped onto its side.

Using a reciprocating saw, the firefighters cut open the roof of the flipped car, enabling them to free the driver and passenger inside.

Police from the Roads Policing Unit at Totton quickly closed Oakley Road to manage the incident and assist emergency services.

The injured woman was immediately taken to Southampton General Hospital for treatment.

The second vehicle involved was a red Skoda, driven by a woman in her 40s who was left shaken but unharmed.

The collision scattered debris across the road and caused significant damage to all vehicles involved.
