The Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance landed at Milton Park today (Wednesday, May 16) after a collision outside Lidl in Portsmouth.
Doctors onboard immediately attended to a woman in her 50s who was struck by a car in the busy store’s car park.
Emergency crews quickly arrived at the scene. Two ambulances from South Central Ambulance Service reached Goldsmith Avenue promptly, while Hampshire Police officers were also dispatched without delay. Additionally, two fire appliances from Hampshire Fire and Rescue attended the incident.
A spokesperson from South Central Ambulance Service said: “We received a 999 call at 11.21am reporting a collision between a pedestrian and a car in Lidl’s car park. We sent two ambulances and the Hampshire & Isle of Wight Air Ambulance. The pedestrian, a woman in her mid-50s, sustained serious injuries and has been taken to the major trauma centre at University Hospital Southampton by road, with the air ambulance crew travelling with her. The driver of the car is also being taken to Queen Alexandra Hospital for assessment.”
The incident left traffic and shoppers shaken as emergency services responded swiftly. Further updates will follow.
