The A3 southbound in Hampshire is completely shut between the A333 Hindhead and B2131 Liphook after a serious single-vehicle collision occurred at around 10:20 this morning.
Hampshire Police are leading the incident response at the scene. Due to the severity of the crash, the closure is expected to last several hours as emergency crews work to manage the situation and clear the carriageway.
Traffic congestion is anticipated to be severe. To help ease the build-up, police plan to release traffic slowly from the back of the queues caused by the closure. Additionally, lane two of the southbound Hindhead Tunnel remains closed.
Motorists are urged to follow the solid triangle diversion signs on local routes. The recommended detour is as follows:
Exit the A3 southbound at Stag Hill Interchange (Hogs Back) and take the A31 towards Farnham. Continue for approximately 7 miles to the Shepherd and Flock roundabout. Take the first exit onto the A31 Farnham Bypass. Proceed to the B3001 junction and cross over to the A31/A325 roundabout. Take the first exit onto the A325 and follow it to the Longmoor Interchange roundabout. At Longmoor, take the second exit to rejoin the A3 southbound.
Drivers who use the A3 are advised to plan ahead and expect major delays. Consider re-routing or delaying journeys where possible.
