A major incident on the A229 has caused widespread traffic disruption in Kent after a serious crash near Cranbrook. The collision involved a commercial vehicle and a Ford KA, leading to the closure of this key route.

Emergency services were called to the scene at around 12:45pm on Tuesday near Sprongs Lane, on the outskirts of Cranbrook. Kent Police and fire crews responded promptly after the two vehicles collided.

Firefighters had to use cutting equipment to free one driver who was trapped in their vehicle. Paramedics treated the injured motorist at the scene before transferring them to a hospital in London for further care.

The A229 has been closed in both directions while officers from Kent Roads Policing conduct a full investigation into the cause of the crash. The closure has forced traffic onto narrow B roads, resulting in significant delays and congestion for motorists in the area.

Kent Police confirmed they are leading the investigation but have not released further details regarding the condition of the injured driver or the cause of the collision. Drivers are advised to avoid the Cranbrook area and expect lengthy delays until the road reopens.
