A major development has occurred in the cold case of Lisa Dorrian, who vanished without a trace in Northern Ireland over 20 years ago. A 68-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of her murder following her mysterious disappearance in 2005.
Lisa, aged 25, was last seen on the night of February 27 after attending a party at Ballyhalbert Caravan Park. Despite extensive police searches and desperate appeals from her family, her body has never been found. Authorities now believe she was murdered that night or shortly thereafter.
The Police Service of Northern Ireland’s (PSNI) Major Investigation Team confirmed the arrest on Monday. The suspect faces charges including murder, assisting offenders, withholding information, and preventing a lawful burial. He remains in custody as investigations continue.
Ulster Unionist justice spokesman Doug Beattie described the arrest as “significant progress” in a case that has deeply affected Lisa’s family for two decades. He stated, “This is an important step forward in a case that has caused unimaginable pain for Lisa’s family and friends for two decades. My thoughts remain with her loved ones and everyone still waiting for answers across Northern Ireland.”
Lisa’s sister, Joanne Dorrian, spoke about the family’s heartbreak, revealing that their mother passed away without ever learning what happened to her “beautiful first-born daughter.” Joanne said, “Our family has never been the same since the day we got the news that Lisa went missing.”
To mark the 20th anniversary of Lisa’s disappearance, detectives released CCTV footage showing her final known movements. The footage captures Lisa entering the Saltwater Brig pub in County Down on February 26, 2005 — just hours before she vanished.
Police continue to urge anyone with information to come forward and help bring closure to this tragic mystery.
