Engine Failure Sparks Mid-Air Emergency for Cardiff Flight

TUI Airways Flight Declares Emergency After Take-Off

A TUI Airways flight from Cardiff Airport to Paphos was forced to turn back shortly after take-off on Sunday afternoon. Flight BY6754 took off at 4.28pm but suffered an engine failure moments later, prompting the crew to declare a mid-air emergency.

The aircraft triggered the international emergency transponder code 7700, signalling a serious problem as it flew over south Wales.

Flight Diverts and Lands Safely at Birmingham

With the engine issue worsening, the plane diverted to Birmingham Airport. It landed safely at 5.30pm, with fire and rescue teams waiting on standby as a precaution.

Cardiff Airport Responds to In-Flight Crisis

“We are aware of an incident involving flight TOM6754 from Cardiff to Paphos. The safety of our passengers is our number one priority,” a Cardiff Airport spokesperson said. “The aircraft diverted to Birmingham Airport (BHX) and landed safely at approximately 17:30.”

Thankfully, all passengers and crew emerged unscathed after the tense mid-air scare.
