Massive Fire Destroys Disused Chesterfield Building – Cause a Mystery

A huge fire ripped through a long-abandoned property in Chesterfield, but despite a full investigation, the cause remains unknown due to extreme damage.

Blaze Erupts on Old Road, Crews Battle Into Dawn

Emergency services were scrambled at 5:23pm on Tuesday, 2 September, after reports of a fire at a two-storey building on Old Road.

Firefighters from Chesterfield, Matlock, Staveley, and Clay Cross stations rushed to the scene. Armed with an aerial ladder platform and breathing apparatus, they fought back flames with multiple main jets.

The operation was relentless, continuing until 3:30am Wednesday morning (3 September). Crews returned later that day at 8:30am to reinspect and complete fire investigation work.

Thankfully, no injuries were reported.

Cause a Complete Mystery

Derbyshire Fire & Rescue Service confirmed that the fire caused such severe destruction it’s impossible to pinpoint the cause.

Derbyshire Constabulary attended and are now appealing for public help. Anyone with information is urged to come forward quoting incident number 25*519473.
