Massive Blaze Tears Through Brighton Garage, Six Cars at Risk
Huge Fire Erupts in Domestic Garage
East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service (ESFRS) raced to a huge garage fire on Green Ridge, Brighton, today, 12 December 2024. The emergency call came at 11:28 a.m., triggering an immediate launch of four fire engines. The blaze quickly intensified, forcing crews to call in reinforcements.
Firefighting Efforts Ramp Up
By 12:20 p.m., eight fire engines and an aerial ladder platform were battling the inferno. The garage, attached to a home, contained six vehicles — making the situation more dangerous and complex for firefighters.
Thankfully, ESFRS confirmed by 11:50 a.m. that everyone on the premises was safe and no injuries were reported. However, locals have been urged to steer clear to help emergency teams and avoid smoke inhalation.
Serious Damage and Hazards
- The garage roof has partially collapsed under the intense heat.
- Crews are using specialist foam and the aerial ladder to tackle the flames.
- Heavy smoke is spreading, with residents advised to keep windows and doors shut.
An ESFRS spokesperson said, “Our crews are working tirelessly to contain the fire and ensure the safety of the surrounding properties. We appreciate the cooperation of local residents in staying clear of the area.”
Firefighters Still Battling Blaze as Cause Remains Unknown
As of 1:00 p.m., fire crews continued to fight the blaze. Investigators will move in once the flames are under control to find out what sparked the fire.
